Silence is golden; this saying is never truer than when you’re lying in bed drifting off to sleep.
A ticking clock can easily turn your nighttime routine into a headache culminating in a broken clock!
Many of us choose to banish the ticking clock from the bedroom, yet having a good wall clock not only makes a nice bedroom feature but it also means you don’t have to stare at your phone in the middle of the night which can damage your sleep with blue light.
Fortunately, there is a solution; silent clocks.
If you’re in a rush here are our 4 favourite silent clocks:
Top Tip: If you have an old noisy clock which looks great but ticks very loudly then read our article on how to make a clock quieter.
Silent Clock Features
When buying a quiet clock consider the following features to ensure that you get something that you will be happy with for a long time:
1. Sound
So long as your clock uses a gliding clock mechanism then, in theory, it should make no noise at all, however be aware that some cheaper mechanism can make a very small amount of noise (almost imperceptible unless you try very hard to hear it) when they have had a few years of use and worn down a bit.
Gliding mechanisms mean the second hand rotates smoothly around the clock face rather than ticking around it, thereby making no noise.
2. Size
Clocks come in all shapes and sizes, in most rooms at 10-inch clock is more or less the standard size, however you may want a huge 20inch + clock to use a centrepiece in your lounge or you may want a smaller clock such as an alarm clock for your bedroom.
3. Materials
Clocks can be made from pretty much anything that can hold the mechanism. Plastic, metal, wood and glass are all commonly used. Typically solid wood clocks will last longer and have a higher build quality than plastic clocks.
4. Price
You can buy a decent clock for not much more than $20. If you want to get a top-quality wooden-framed clock that will last a lifetime you can do so for not much more than $40.
If you haven’t got a lot to spend check out our best budget clock in the table above, it retails for around $10 – and looks great!
